Job Summary
The Specialist / Registrar – Neurosurgery will be responsible for delivering comprehensive clinical care to patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions. The role includes patient assessment, diagnosis, surgical and non-surgical treatment, post-operative management, and emergency neurosurgical care.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Evaluate patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions and establish appropriate diagnoses.
Develop and implement suitable surgical or non-surgical treatment plans based on clinical assessment and diagnostic findings.
Perform neurosurgical procedures and operations within the scope of professional expertise and hospital authorization.
Provide timely management of emergency neurosurgical cases, including head trauma, intracranial bleeding, spinal emergencies, and other critical conditions.
Review and interpret diagnostic investigations such as CT scans, MRI, angiography, and other relevant neurological tests.
Conduct pre-operative evaluations and obtain informed consent from patients or their authorized representatives.
Monitor patients after surgery and manage any post-operative complications appropriately.
Conduct regular ward rounds and provide continuous follow-up throughout the patient's hospital stay.
Work collaboratively with neurologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, rehabilitation specialists, nurses, and other relevant healthcare professionals.
Maintain complete and accurate medical records, operative reports, discharge summaries, and other required clinical documentation.
Ensure the appropriate and responsible use of medications, diagnostic investigations, blood products, and other medical resources.
Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews, clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, and quality-improvement initiatives.
Comply with hospital policies, clinical protocols, infection-control measures, patient-safety standards, and relevant professional regulations.
Counsel patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, surgical risks, expected outcomes, and follow-up requirements.
Support the training, supervision, and professional development of junior doctors, medical officers, and other clinical staff as required.
Maintain professional competency through continuing medical education, training, research, and other professional development activities.
Protect patient confidentiality and consistently uphold professional ethics and patients’ rights.
Perform on-call and emergency duties according to the departmental duty roster.
Arrange appropriate referrals and patient transfers whenever specialized or advanced medical care is required.
Assist in developing and implementing departmental protocols, clinical pathways, and service-improvement programs.
Perform other duties related to neurosurgical services as assigned by the Head of Department or authorized hospital management.
