Responsibilities & Context

 

Position Overview

PHD Bangladesh is recruiting a Senior Staff Nurse for the Mother and Child Hospital (MCH), Camp 21, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

The role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, patient-centred nursing care across OPD, IPD, maternity, newborn, and emergency units in a 24/7 CEmOC-capable humanitarian hospital serving Rohingya and host communities.


Clinical Leadership & Service Delivery

  • Lead triage and prioritization of patients for timely emergency response and patient flow management.

  • Supervise nursing care across OPD, IPD, maternity, newborn, and emergency units.

  • Ensure implementation of IMCI, EmONC, and nursing protocols for assessment, treatment, and referral.

  • Oversee safe administration of medications (oral, IM, IV) and nursing procedures.

  • Supervise antenatal, postnatal, and newborn care, including danger sign monitoring and complication management.

  • Support emergency procedures such as oxygen therapy, IV cannulation, resuscitation support, and patient stabilization.

  • Coordinate with Medical Officers, Midwives, Lab, Pharmacy, and Nutrition teams for integrated care delivery.


Maternal, Newborn & Emergency Care Supervision

  • Supervise labour room activities ensuring safe delivery practices and infection prevention standards.

  • Oversee pre-operative and post-operative nursing care and safe patient transfer and monitoring.

  • Ensure essential newborn care including thermal protection, breastfeeding support, and danger sign monitoring.

  • Support emergency response and escalation of critically ill patients.


Supervision, Mentorship & Capacity Building

  • Provide daily supervision, guidance, and mentorship to nursing staff and junior team members.

  • Manage shift allocation and ensure continuity of care through proper handover systems.

  • Conduct on-the-job coaching and skill development sessions for nursing staff.

  • Facilitate clinical trainings, refresher courses, and case review meetings.


Infection Prevention & Patient Safety

  • Ensure strict compliance with IPC protocols, including hand hygiene, PPE use, and safe clinical practice.

  • Supervise waste segregation, cleaning, and sterilization of clinical areas.

  • Promote safe injection practices and maintain a clean, safe care environment.


Documentation, Reporting & Stock Management

  • Ensure accurate completion of nursing records, registers, IMCI forms, partographs, and treatment documentation.

  • Oversee timely submission of daily, weekly, and monthly service reports.

  • Monitor stock levels of medicines, consumables, and emergency supplies and report shortages.

  • Ensure proper shift handover documentation and continuity of care records.


Referral & Continuity of Care

  • Ensure timely identification and referral of critical cases following standard protocols.

  • Supervise safe transfer of patients within facility or to higher-level care facilities.

  • Provide health education to patients and caregivers on treatment, follow-up, and danger signs.


Quality Improvement & Coordination

  • Participate in clinical meetings, audits, MPDSR reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Support implementation of clinical guidelines and service improvement plans.

  • Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams for integrated patient care.


Safeguarding & Humanitarian Responsibilities

  • Uphold Child Safeguarding, PSEA, and organizational Code of Conduct.

  • Ensure confidentiality, dignity, and survivor-centred care for all patients.

  • Respond to emergencies, outbreaks, and humanitarian situations as required.


Other Duties

  • Perform any additional responsibilities assigned by Medical Officer, Senior Clinical Staff, or Project Coordinator.


Compensation & Other Benefits
  • Salary Review: Half Yearly

  • Monthly Gross Salary: BDT 59,545 (fixed).

  • Bonus: 10% of monthly gross salary.
