Responsibilities & Context

  • Oversee daily operations of the biochemistry laboratory and ensure smooth workflow from sample receipt to reporting.
  • Supervise laboratory technologists and support staff, ensuring discipline and proper task distribution.
  • Ensure accuracy of test results through proper implementation of IQC and EQA programs.
  • Validate and authorize laboratory reports before release.
  • Maintain compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and laboratory quality standards.
  • Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Coordinate with service engineers for repair and preventive maintenance.
  • Manage inventory of reagents, kits, consumables, and ensure proper storage conditions.
  • Prepare requisitions and control laboratory costs and wastage.
  • Maintain laboratory records, registers, and digital reporting systems.
  • Ensure biosafety, infection control, and proper biomedical waste disposal practices.
  • Train, guide, and evaluate laboratory staff for continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with physicians and hospital departments for clinical support and query handling.
  • Participate in audits and inspections and ensure full regulatory compliance.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) when necessary.
