Bangladesh Garments Accessories & Packaging Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BGAPMEA) started its operation in the year 1989. The Association is the prime trade organization to safeguard the interest of garments accessories & packaging manufacturers & exporters of the country and represents about 2,000 Garments Accessories & Packaging industries of the country. Garments Accessories & Packaging (GAP) sector is acting as the backward linkage industry of RMG. This sector earned about US$ 6.87 billion (deemed & direct export) for the country during the FY 2023-24, out of which about US$ 1.0 billion was direct export. The exported countries were Netherlands, South Africa, Pakistan, India, Middle East, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Italy, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan, Germany, Austria etc. Investment of this sector is about Taka 40 thousand crore and value addition is about 40%. To achieve the 80 billion US$ RMG export target by 2030, the GAP sector is to produce US$ 12.00 billion. More than 7.5 lac employees are working in this sector of whom 20% are women. Global packaging market size is about US$ 800 billion. GAP sector can earn US$ 8.0 billion by capturing 1% market share of packaging. There is also opportunity to export to emerging countries like: Myanmar, African nation etc.
