• Supervise and manage nursing staff, including scheduling, assignments, and performance evaluations.
• Assess and address the total care needs of patients in the unit, developing and implementing planned nursing care.
• Demonstrate and oversee the delivery of nursing care to ensure consistency and quality.
• Conduct regular patient rounds with medical and nursing teams to ensure comprehensive care.
• Review shift reports from in-charges regarding nursing care provided across all units.
• Assist the DCNO in coordinating staff leave and maintaining optimal staffing levels across units.
• Support the Head Nurse/In-Charge with administrative tasks and help clarify staff roles when necessary.
• Plan and organize duty rosters, ensuring adequate nursing coverage in all shifts.
• Provide guidance and counseling to nursing staff; assist in initiating disciplinary actions when needed, in coordination with the DCNO.
• Maintain effective communication with department in-charges and all team members.
• Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient care plans, nursing interventions, and treatment outcomes.
• Guarantee timely, appropriate, and high-quality nursing care for all patients.
• Guide in-charges on inventory management; oversee the use and care of supplies and equipment.
• Conduct periodic checks of stock levels and usage patterns to prevent shortages or wastage.
• Verify accuracy of night reports, patient census sheets, and data from wards, cabins, and other departments.
• Monitor patient outcomes and implement quality improvement strategies to enhance care and safety.
• Conduct regular audits to maintain and elevate patient care and safety standards.
• Perform daily checks of emergency and critical equipment, including monitors, ventilators, defibrillators, suction machines, and oxygen points, ensuring they are in working condition.
• Liaise with the engineering services team to maintain the unit’s infrastructure and equipment.
• Act as a bridge between nursing staff and hospital administration, voicing concerns, needs, and recommendations.
• Stay informed about patient care needs and highlight any emerging or ongoing challenges.
• Attend and participate in evening/night duty meetings, as well as occasional day meetings, contributing to agenda setting and active discussions.
• Engage in hospital quality assurance programs and initiatives.
• Lead and participate in staff training and development sessions.
• Foster strong interpersonal relationships with colleagues, patients, and their families.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulations, especially those related to infection control and patient safety.
• Actively contribute to quality improvement efforts and promote adherence to best practices in alignment with BSH standards.
